Sandy asks…

Is there an website for an online version of the Better Business Bureau?

There are a lot of phonies out there on the web ripping off people. And this could help some to keep people from getting ripped off out there by the fakes. Nothing is full proof but I think its a great idea!

Brenton Parker answers:

Ripoffreport.com is awesome!

Chris asks…

How can I find out if an online job is legit?? Can I call the better business bureau?

I found a job listing on our local tv channel website, ( they have classifieds online). The job is for processing email online. I think it is a scam but would to know for sure.
The business I am trying to find out about wants ppl to read & send out email…. not spam though. Not sure this sounds real to me.

Brenton Parker answers:

Better business bureau is one. Ripoff Report is another one. Local chamber of commerce or business licensing division is another one.

Sharon asks…

What is an UK alternative to a BBB (Better Business Bureau) ‘online reliability seal’?

We would like to create a website that consumers will trust – any ideas?

Brenton Parker answers:

Verizon, W3C, etc.

David asks…

Online Better Better Business Bureau?

Where can I find information on online bbb? Either to report a website or find information on one?

Brenton Parker answers:

To be honest I think its good to report with the BBB but if you really want to be effective in letting people know about that site, you should also report to http://www.ripoffreport.com. When people search for “Is *****.com a scam?” or also if they just search for the website, and there’s lots of complaints already, they will see reports on ripoffreport on the first page of google results most of the time. BBB doesn’t get indexed by google as well so most people would not see your complaint unless they actually went to BBB and checked. If you really want to find out if a website is a scam, the best thing to do is search on google for the 2 phrases, the name fo the website, and the word scam. For example, if the website is called blahblahblah.com……go to google and search for this phrase “blahblahblah.com scam”. It will show you ever time that website was mentioned with the word scam in the conversation. Not everybody who gets ripped off reports it to BBB or ripoffreport. I would say that most people do not because they are probably too lazy but alot of people mention if they got ripped off in forums and places like that, and by doing a google search like that, you will come up with everytime those words have been used on forums and stuff.

Susan asks…

Where to file complaint online for bad product or service I bought & wasnt happy with? Better Business Bureau?

Hello,

Are there any websites we consumers can go to file complaints against a business for selling unsatisfactory products or services?

I had bought a bed from Macy’s but after a few months I have been having back ache and very uncomfortable sleeping on the bed. I called them but they didnt want to do anything becuase of a small stain on the bed. I had paid around $1000 for the bed. I would like to exchange the it with another one but they are making it hard for me to get it replaced. The bed has a 20 year warranty. How do you recommend I should handle this situation?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Brenton Parker answers:

If you are having difficulties with someone at the store try talking to either a store manager, or go above that (corporate offices). If you still don’t get anywhere try contacting the manufacturer directly. Sometimes they can prompt action from the store when the store alone will not do anything.

Did you pay with a credit card? If so you may be able to get the credit card company to take back that money. It’s called a charge back and it’s bad on a business (they actually pay a fee on this so they rather not).

If all else fails submit a complaint to the better business bureau and CC Macy’s corporate headquarters on this. The BBB will only send a letter to Macy’s stating there is a complaint and give them an avenue to respond, but it might get their attention. The BBB will not force Macy’s to do anything but it might help.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck!

What kind of rating does Timeshare Express Services have with the Online Business Bureau?

I know that companies can be rated here, but I don’t know how to check someone’s rating.

Brenton Parker answers:

Well it looks like she didn’t even answer your question. Timeshare Express Services has a good rating with the Online Business Bureau. They are in good standing with no outstanding complaints. Timeshares aren’t a scam, a lot of people are happy with owning timeshares. I am very happy owning mine, my family loves and looks forward to vacation every year.

Steven asks…

Is there something like an online BBB (Better Business Bureau) for the Medical field?

Something where we can report doctors or clinics or check to see if there’s other reports against them. I know there’s got to be something like this, or should be. I found something a long time ago that accepted opinions & ratings (good & bad) of doctors in an area, but it was an incomplete list with very little opinions. I’m interested in a more professional website like the BBB. Any help appreciated.
10 points for best answer!
Thank you

Brenton Parker answers:

Yes, you can find information like that thru the State Medical Board to see if they have information listed there.
